For older adults, falls are one of the greatest causes of serious health problems. Fortunately for the growing population of seniors in down east Maine, Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Physical Therapy department has acquired new technology to help increase mobility and confidence for a more independent, active lifestyle.
Dr. Silvio Saidemberg, MD will provide child, adolescent and adult psychiatric services at the MDI Behavioral Health Center beginning December 1st.
MDI Hospital is part of a collaborative of small rural hospitals across Maine that recently received the President’s Award for Improved Patient Safety from the New England Rural Health Roundtable. The President’s Award is presented to a group or individual whose efforts in the area of rural health have had a significant impact. The award was presented at the Roundtable’s October 30th annual symposium in Portland for the Collaborative’s efforts in the area of patient medication safety initiatives.
Mount Desert Island Hospital Emergency Department nurses Linda Crowell RN, and Eileen Wignall, RN have attained a nationally recognized credential in emergency nursing. The two nurses received their Certified Emergency Nurse certificate by passing an exam administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.
Psychologist Stephen Koscherak, Ph.D, ABPP has joined the staff at the Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor. As a member of the MDI Behavioral Health Center staff, Dr. Koscherak will offer counseling for school-age children, adolescents, adults, and married couples Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
