MDIH's Lifeline: Keeping Your Loved-Ones Independent and Safe in Their Own Home:

Mount Desert Island Hospital's Auxiliary Lifeline provides a valuable service for people who could benefit from being able to push a button in an emergency to alert medical services. Many people who are elderly or who live alone and have a high likelihood of needing medical attention may feel more confident having a Lifeline system installed.

Primary care provider or nursing home referrals are one way lifeline is recommended, but the program can be self-referred as well. For a $25 installation and training fee and then $25 a month monitoring fee, many people who would otherwise have to stay in costly nursing homes, have the ability to stay in their homes with Lifeline installed. Some insurance companies will cover these fees and there are several organizations who may sponsor clients who cannot afford the service.

If you or someone you know would feel more confident staying in their own home, knowing that help is just a button push away, please call Linda Herrick at MDI Hospital's Auxiliary Lifeline Program at 288-5081, ext. 1320.
