Part of the Colket Inpatient Care Center, the Edward Gilmore, MD Intensive Care Unit at MDI Hospital is equipped to provide exceptional care for critically ill patients. Staffed by specially trained and certified nurses and physicians, the Hospital’s ICU has three private rooms equipped with advanced technology to monitor patients’ vital signs.
Patients who need care in our ICU include those who have suffered a stroke, a cardiac event, or who need to be closely monitored during post-operative recovery.
Our three full time Hospitalists specializing in internal medicine work in concert with our nursing staff, on-call physicians and our patients’ primary care providers to ensure the provision of timely, compassionate, patient-centered care.
Patients who are recovering from serious illness might progress from the ICU to either our acute care medical/surgical unit or to our Skilled Rehabilitation Program for patients who have stabilized and are well enough to begin rehabilitation.
If the patients’ need exceeds our resources, we will arrange for the necessary transportation and care at our tertiary care facility in Bangor or at another facility that meets our patients’ needs and wishes.
