The Speech Therapy program at MDI Hospital, offered through our Physical Therapy Department, provides diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and swallowing impairments.
We work with people who are unable to make speech sounds or communicate or understand spoken language due to neurological or other impairments. We also diagnose and treat swallowing impairments due to neurological impairments or injury.
Our speech therapist will set up a program to help remediate the impairment, and if necessary, will develop and implement individualized treatment programs based on the input of an interdisciplinary team of care providers.
We will work with families on how to cope with the stress associated with speech disorders and will work on treatment techniques to use at home and on how to modify behavior that impedes communication.
