As part of Mount Desert Island Hospital’s recognition of Breast Health Awareness Month in October, The Breast Center at MDI Hospital is hosting an educational program about post breast surgery pain syndrome and lymphedema on Friday, Oct. 5 at Birch Bay Retirement Village.

The lunch program will feature James Marc-Aurele, MBA, OTR/L, who is a lymphedema specialist and supervisor of occupational therapy at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. The program is intended to increase awareness of the syndrome and to review potential treatment options.

Post breast surgery pain syndrome is a chronic condition where pain persists beyond the discomfort directly associated with surgery. Lymphedema is localized fluid retention caused by a compromised lymphatic system as a result of breast surgery or cancer treatment.

This program and lunch are offered free of charge as a public service of The Breast Center at MDI Hospital.  Reservations are required.  Please contact Kelli Mitchell at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 288-5082 ext. 1137.
