-Women & Strength Training

Many women do not attempt strength training because they believe it will make them too muscular or bulky, when actually strength training increases metabolism which helps burn fat and can create a lean appearance far more easily than fad diets or exercising alone.

Women who do not strength train lose about 5 pounds of muscle every decade of adult life. This leads to a lower metabolism, a gradual increase in fat weight and a less fit and firm appearance. In most cases the added muscle from strength training simply replaces what was lost. Typically women who start a strength training program lose twice as much fat as muscle gained.

Increased strength enables better endurance at physical activities, increased metabolism (more calories are burned even in a resting state) and reduced risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, lower back pain, cancer and depression.
