At Mount Desert Island Hospital, it is our mission to strengthen the health of our community. The MDI Hospital Organization has held an enduring commitment to the health and well-being of our community, and to the people that we serve since we were first established in 1897. Today, our team consists of more than 500 dedicated employees who are committed to a vision of serving as our community’s medical home.

In keeping with our mission and vision, MDI Hospital provides a broad range of community services free of charge, and our top-quality care is always available to all regardless of their ability to pay. Each year, we produce a Community Benefits Report to share with you the dedication of our outstanding staff, our partner organizations and all that we are able to do together to enhance the health and well-being of our community. We also actively participate in assessing the needs of our community through shared Community Health Needs Assessment surveys, and are committed to finding ways to best meet these needs via our Community Health Needs Assessment Implementation Plan.
