Barbara Hannon to Help National Nurse Organization Meet Membership Goals

Barbara Hannon, RN, MSN, M.Ed., Vice President of Clinical Services at Mount Desert Island Hospital, has accepted a prestigious appointment to the Membership Services Committee of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).

The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is the national organization of nurses who design, facilitate, and manage care. A subsidiary of the American Hospital Association with more than 6,000 members, AONE is the voice of nursing leadership in health care.

“I’m honored to receive this appointment,” said Ms. Hannon. “It is exciting to participate in an organization that is shaping the future of healthcare.” Ms. Hannon will serve on the Committee from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009.

The Membership Services Committee is responsible for identifying key strategies that will enhance the value of AONE membership. The committee provides input to staff and Board of Directors for new products and services, as well as initiatives to increase membership. Committee members participate in several conference calls during the year.

The Membership Committee has been given the challenge of providing direction on initiatives that will increase membership to 10,000 by the end of 2010. “We will be working hard to increase the membership rolls,” said Ms. Hannon. “The more members we have, the more the AONE can provides to the profession,” she added.

Ms. Hannon received her nursing degree in 1969 and has worked in a variety of nursing leadership positions. She received her Master of Education degree in 1984 and her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2008. Currently, Ms Hannon oversees all clinical services for Mount Desert Island Hospital and its eight health centers.

Since 1967, the AONE has provided leadership, professional development, advocacy and research to advance nursing practice and patient care, promote nursing leadership excellence and shape public policy for health care. AONE’s 48 affiliated state and metropolitan chapters and its alliances with state hospital associations give the organization’s initiatives a regional and local presence. AONE is a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association
