Hi – I’m Kira the Therapy Dog.
I recently completed my therapy dog certification and have started visiting patients at Birch Bay Village and the Community Health Center with my human, Dr. Koscherak. I love to see the smiles on people’s faces when they meet me and touch my thick soft fur. I am a six year old Samoyed who spent the first five years of my life in a kennel near Toronto. I had three litters of puppies before I came to live with Dr. K. on MDI. Now I get to walk the carriage trails every day and enjoy the outdoors.
I love my new lifestyle. To earn my therapy dog certification I had to learn all sorts of things that I had never done before such as sit, stay, and heel. I even learned twenty words of English. It was very difficult and took me almost a year to master the skills. My human says he is very proud of me. Now we can go to new places and spend more time together. I like meeting people and making them happy. Being a therapy dog is fun.
I hope you have a good day. I’ll see you on the trails. Keep walking. It’s good for your health.
