Healthy Living on Display at MDI Hospital Health Fair

Health and wellness will be on display during Mount Desert Island Hospital’s annual Health Fair, Saturday, October 29th from 10am to 1pm at Birch Bay Retirement Village

on the Crooked Road in Bar Harbor. This free event is open to the public and will provide an opportunity to learn about many resources for a healthy lifestyle.

The event offers a convenient chance to get flu shots and free health care screenings. Exhibitors will be on-hand, displaying information and answering questions about their services.

Health care providers from within the MDI Hospital organization and beyond will be on hand to provide the services. Screenings scheduled for the Health Fair include skin checks with dermatologist Norman Sykes, MD, body mass index, blood pressure, bone density, cholesterol, and orthopaedic medicine with Mark Kandutsch, MD. Demonstrations on alternative healing practices including acupuncture, reflexology and massage will also be available.

The MDI Lions Club will offer instant vision checks with their new PediaVision digital vision screener that can instantly scan for six common vision issues such as near and far sightedness.

Birch Bay Retirement Village will have information about the many retirement living options at its scenic Bar Harbor location, as well as its day program for people with memory loss in Southwest Harbor at the Straus Center.
