May 17 Cooking Class & Open House Event Set
For the first time ever, Mount Desert Island Hospital joins Jamie Oliver’s international Food Revolution Day on May 17 to promote awareness of healthy eating and cooking for all.
As a small critical access hospital off the coast of Maine, MDI Hospital, eight health centers and Birch Bay Retirement Village serve a large community in Hancock County. Our hospital operates. We aim to serve the needs of our community in all aspects of their lives.
As part of our continuing effort to serve every aspect of the community, a new childhood obesity prevention program is being introduced. MDI Hospital is now a part of the statewide FIT4ME initiative based on Michelle Obama’s national Let’s Go program to promote healthy eating habits combined with of physical therapy, nutrition counseling, exercise and primary care.
To help introduce the program and promote a healthy future for the region’s children, MDI Hospital has become a part of Chef Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution Day.
MDI Hospital will host a Cooking Class & Open House at the Straus Center adjacent to the Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor on Friday, May 17 from 3 to 5 pm.
Local chef Sam Keene will be teaching attendees how to make a simple healthy meal, there will be activities for kids and recipes to take home.
The event is free and donations are welcome If you cannot attend, you can still donate to our cause at http://www.razoo.com/story/Food-Revolution-Day or www.foodrevolutionday.com, or support our cause by sharing this event on Facebook and Twitter.
