Certified Nurses Day is celebrated annually on March 19th to honor nurses who achieve and maintain specialty certification, recognizing their expertise, professionalism, and commitment to patient care.
Certified Nurses day is observed every year on this day because it is the birthday of Dr. Margretta “Gretta” Madden Styles, a pioneer in nursing certification who championed professional credentials in nursing. Established in 2008 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in partnership with the American Nurses Association (ANA), the day celebrates nurses who have earned national board certification in their specialty, demonstrating advanced knowledge, skill, and dedication to patient safety.
At MDI Hospital, Health Centers, and Birch Bay Retirement Village, we are proud to have 30 Certified Nurses who have accreditations that include: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Certified Operating Room Nurse (CNOR), Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Pain Management Certified, Certified Emergency Room Nurse (CEN), Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC), Would Care Certified (WCC), Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse (CMSRN), Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Certified Medical Surgical RN (CMSRN), Instructor Certified for BLS, ACLD, and PALS, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (CCHt), Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN), Resident Assessment Coordinator (RSC), Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), Registered Nurse Certified in Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring (RNC-EFM).
