Bar Harbor, Maine — Mount Desert Island Hospital has once again been nationally recognized for providing outstanding care, earning a 5-star rating for patient experience from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)—the highest score awarded.
This distinction places MDI Hospital among the top-performing hospitals in the nation for patient satisfaction, based on survey data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). The CMS star ratings reflect direct feedback from patients on key areas such as communication with doctors and nurses, responsiveness of hospital staff, cleanliness, quietness, pain management, and overall hospital experience.
“This recognition is a reflection of our team’s unwavering commitment to compassion, quality, and community,” said Chrissi Maguire, President & CEO of MDI Hospital. “We are honored to receive this national distinction and proud to deliver personalized care that consistently earns the trust of those we serve.”
As an independent critical access hospital, MDI Hospital serves Mount Desert Island, the outer islands, and surrounding Downeast communities. With a long-standing focus on patient-centered care, MDI Hospital continues to lead with innovation and excellence—all while preserving the time-honored values that define rural health care.
The 5-star rating underscores the hospital’s mission to provide compassionate care and strengthen the health of the community. MDI Hospital was one of only 8.2 percent of hospitals nationwide to earn a 5-star rating for 2024.
