Light is a nurse at MDI Hospital’s Emergency Department where he spends up to six months a year. The retired U.S. Army medic has spent much of his civilian career working in all types of medical facilities from California to the Carolinas, and everywhere in between. That experience and his willingness to share it make him a resource within the ED. “A lot of people look to him as a nurse because you know he’s done it. There isn’t much he hasn’t seen.,” said MDI Hospital’s Emergency Department Director Chris Costello. “His array of skills and the knowledge he shares is a resource for me and the entire staff.”
Light, who calls the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia home when he’s not at MDI Hospital, is currently in the midst of his 11th assignment here. He says Healthcare Traveler Magazine is the go-to resource for many traveling healthcare professionals and he’s proud to be recognized. The honor is based on a nomination, followed by interviews and questionnaires with employers and clients, and then ultimately decided by a selection committee. “I find it flattering that I can be over 60 (years old) and still keep up with the younger crowd,” Light said of his recognition.
