Family Nurse Practitioner Chris Schleif has joined the provider team at Trenton Health Center returning to Mount Desert Island Hospital where he began his career as a nurse practitioner.
For the past six years, Schleif has been practicing occupational medicine at the Jackson Laboratory.
Getting back to his roots and training in family practice, Schleif said, is what attracted him to practice at the Trenton Health Center. “I’m very happy to get back to family practice where you have a broader patient age range and you get to know your patients at a family level,” he said.
Schleif joined the MDI Hospital team as a registered nurse while attending graduate school. After graduation he practiced at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and MDI Hospital before accepting a position with Jackson Lab. Today he is pleased to join family health providers Kathleen Kotas, MD; Lee Haynes, MD; and Patricia Riley, FNP in Trenton where he says the “continuity of care across families and generations gives us the opportunity to truly know our patients as part of our extended family.”
“The fact that we see multiple generations of the same family says a lot about the care they receive here,” Schleif said of joining the Trenton team. “Offering that kind of personalized care is what brought me back here.”
When he’s not caring for families in the community, Chris enjoys camping, kayaking, and biking with his own family. He and his wife, Angie DelVecchio, who is a family nurse practitioner at MDI Hospital’s Cadillac Family Practice in Bar Harbor, have two children, ages 7 and 11, and live in Otter Creek.
