More than 50 people attended Monday’s Beam Signing Celebration commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Women’s Health Center at Mount Desert Island Hospital and marking the formal kick off of construction on the new Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center. To mark the coming together of the two occasions, members of the community, hospital staff, volunteers, and donors each signed the commemorative beam that will be displayed in the new facility.
Hospital President/CEO Art Blank, left, joins Jane Tawney, PA-C, WHC physician’s assistant; Mary Dudzik, MD, WHC medical director; and Linda Robinson, CNM, WHC certified nurse midwife; placing the first signatures on the beam. The three women helped found the health center 20 years ago to better meet the health care needs of all women in the greater MDI region and were instrumental in the facility’s rebirth in a new building.
Construction on the Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center is expected to begin later this spring.
