Mount Desert Island Hospital welcomed a new security team on Monday, July 1, which will provide security to MDI Hospital from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and for 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
“The security of our patients, visitors and staff is of the utmost importance to us at MDI Hospital. We are pleased to implement this next level of safety as an enhancement to our existing security procedures,” said Arthur J. Blank, hospital president/CEO.
Security team members will be located primarily at the visitors’ entrance to ensure the safety of the hospital’s emergency department and registration area. Security officers will also make rounds in the hospital parking lot and main building at night. The security officers will provide a uniformed presence and will be on hand to assist with de-escalation when necessary.
“We continue to enjoy a close and supportive relationship with the Bar Harbor Police Department,” said Blank. “The addition of this security team is another layer of safety for our patients and staff.”
The team is currently working to assess the specific needs of MDI Hospital. As these needs are identified, they will be integrated into the Hospital’s existing procedures, including codes and drills.
