Palliative Care Consult Service Now Available

The Palliative Care Program at MDI Hospital is now available to provide both inpatient and outpatient consultations. Palliative care focuses on improving quality-of-life for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families through the prevention and relief of physical, social, and spiritual aspects of suffering. Also known as palliative medicine, palliative care provides specialized medical care for people living with serious illnesses—whatever the diagnosis. Palliative care is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided together with curative treatment. Palliative care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses, social workers and other specialists who work with your other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It can often complement the medical care you receive at the hospital.

New consults are currently available on Mondays and Wednesdays with follow-up visits available throughout the week.

For more information on our Palliative Care Program or to schedule a consultation, please contact Megan Tibbetts at 288-5082. ext. 7808.

“Working with palliative care made me feel comfortable that my wishes for my health care are documented and will be honored. It was a surprisingly pleasant conversation that included both my primary care doctor and the palliative care team. I got to take the time to think about these important decisions and ask all my questions.”
