Happy Nurse’s Week with Vicky, Ginger, & Lily!

Vicky Eaton, RN, BSN-SANE

“Nursing has always been my calling, and it is an honor for me to care for patients in this community and beyond.”

– Vicky Eaton, RN, BSN-SANE

Vicky started working for MDI Hospital as a candy striper, volunteering in 1990, and in 1993 was hired to be a switchboard operator. Vicky has worked in various departments from registration to working as a hospital orderly. While working for MDI Hospital, Vicky gained her CNA license in the Emergency Department and after graduating from nursing school, she worked on the MDIH Medical-Surgical unit, later transitioning to the ICU/Telemetry unit, and then back to the ED, where she spent 20 years. Seven years ago, Vicky took on the clinical nursing supervisor role. We are so grateful to Vicky for her tireless devotion and extraordinary growth as a nurse.

Thank you for your unwavering leadership, Vicky!

Ginger King, RN

“One of the greatest joys I have experienced at MDIH is the abundance of support and sharing of knowledge I have received over the past 2 years from other registered nurses, nursing aides and administration. As a newer nurse this has meant so much to me. The level of teamwork and commitment shown by one another is such a comforting and safe feeling as I grow into a thoroughly skilled, confident and accomplished nurse. With the encouragement of my work family, I have seen a steady growth in myself as a nurse. I am eager to pass on this outpouring of support, kindness and patience to new nursing graduates or nurses new to MDIH.”

– Ginger King, RN

Thank you for your continued growth as a nurse in our community, Ginger!

Lily Sweeney, RN!

“Some things have changed a lot at MDI Hospital,” says Lily Sweeney. “What remains the same is the sense of community and family that this Hospital provides to its staff and the community it serves.”

Lily came to Mount Desert Island from Prince Edward Island, Canada. For over 30 years,
Lily has called this Maine island her home and spent much of her time giving back to our local communities.

“We aren’t a big hospital…but the care we give is exceptional. It starts from the kindness at the registration desk, to the housekeeper that smiles while they do their work, or the cafeteria worker who makes sure that their meal is tasty. It’s the doctors and nurses who take the time to talk to patients, and ensure that they are getting the best care possible. It is a group effort that is hard to find anywhere else. It is a gift, pure and simple.”

Thank you for all that you do for MDI Hospital and the Mount Desert Island communities, Lily!
