Dave Robertson, an EMT Intermediate for the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Service, has been named Mount Desert Island Hospital’s 2009 EMT of the Year. Robertson was recognized for his extraordinary efforts as a volunteer. Called the “Gold Standard” by others in the EMS community, Robertson was also praised for serving as a mentor to new EMTs, and his compassionate, professional demeanor. The award was presented during the Hospital’s May 15th EMS Recognition Banquet which also featured a keynote presentation by Pen Bay Medical Center urologist Dr. Lars Ellison, who discussed recent medical missions to Haiti in the wake of the January earthquake that devastated much of the Caribbean island. Also honored during the event were husband and wife Dave and Pat Buccello, both paramedics with the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Service, with the George Clarke Award for outstanding service. The award, presented by Susan Clarke, is named in honor of her husband, George, an EMT who died in 2001.
