MDI Hospital’s Hannon awarded national certification

Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Vice President of Nursing Services and Chief Nursing Officer Barbara Hannon, RN, MSN, M.Ed, has earned the designation of Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).

The CENP is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among an elite group of chief nursing officers. Nationally there are approximately 215 nurse executives that have earned this credential. “This certification signifies that you are serious about nursing practice as an executive,” Hannon said.

To earn the CENP credential candidates must have demonstrated work experience and pass a credentialing exam that covers all aspects of managing patient care services including personnel, licensing and financial management.

Prior to joining the MDI Hospital administrative team in 2008, Hannon served as Director of Utilization Management, Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President of Patient Care Services, and Interim Nurse Administrator at hospitals in Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Hannon received her nursing degree from Boston College in 1969. In 1984, she received her Master of Education degree from the University of Maine.  Hannon earned her  Master of Science degree in Nursing at St. Joseph College of Maine in 2008. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions.
