Childbirth Education Classes

Pregnancy and childbirth can be a wonderful and exciting time. However, it can also be a time for anxiety and/or concern for new parents who are unsure of what to expect or how to care for themselves and their newborn infant. With this in mind, the Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center offer several classes during your pregnancy to help alleviate these stresses as you prepare to embark on the magnificent journey of parenthood. The following classes are offered throughout the year and are free of charge.

Childbirth Preparedness Class

WHEN: May 13th from 5-7PM
WHERE: Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center, 330 Main Street, Bar Harbor
COST: FREE

This course is designed to help patients feel informed, supported, and ready to make decisions that are right for them and their families.

Topics include:

• Signs and Symptoms of labor and Warning Signs when to call the provider
• Stages of labor, what’s happening in your body and what to expect at each phase
• Preparing for the hospital, what to bring, what to expect, and how to plan ahead
• Shared decision-making during pregnancy and labor
• Birthing modalities, positions, movement, tools, and approaches to support your labor
• Pain management options, from natural coping techniques to medical support
• What to expect in labor and how your support person can help
• Postpartum warning signs, because your care doesn’t stop after birth

Breastfeeding Education Class

WHEN: May 27th from 5-7PM
WHERE: Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center, 330 Main Street, Bar Harbor
COST: FREE

This course is designed to help patients learn the most effective techniques they need in order to make breastfeeding and/or pumping work for their families.

Topics inlcude:

• Breastfeeding basics and milk production
• Latching techniques and troubleshooting
• Comfortable breastfeeding positions
• Pumping and milk storage essentials
• Open Q&A and individualized support
