MDI Health Named One of the 2026 Best Places to Work in Maine

Mount Desert Island Hospital and Birch Bay Retirement Village recognized among Maine’s leading employers

BAR HARBOR—MDI Health has once again been named one of the Best Places to Work in Maine, a statewide program recognizing employers that create outstanding workplace environments.

Mount Desert Island Hospital was recognized in the large employer category for organizations with 250 or more employees, while Birch Bay Retirement Village was honored in the small employer category. This marks the third consecutive year both have earned a place on this list.

Best Places to Work in Maine is one of the state’s most rigorous employer recognition programs. The evaluation includes an assessment of organizational policies, practices, and demographics, as well as a confidential survey measuring team members’ experiences and perspectives.

MDI Health employs more than 500 team members across Mount Desert Island Hospital, its community health centers, and Birch Bay Retirement Village. Together, they provide comprehensive healthcare and senior living services to residents and visitors throughout Mount Desert Island and the surrounding region.

The 2026 honorees will be celebrated on October 13 at the Augusta Civic Center, where the final rankings will be announced. Best Places to Work in Maine is presented by the Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, Best Companies Group, and BridgeTower Media.
