Lani Naihe brings together East and West as a Maine native of proud Hawaiian descent. As most people do, she found her career in fundraising completely by accident. She came to development with a degree in English Literature and a strong desire to do some good.
Before finding her calling at MDI Hospital, she postponed pursuing her PhD to work in management of photography and sales. She has been instrumental in shaping MDI Hospital’s Advancement Program, which ultimately landed her the position of Department Director in 2012.
In addition to expanding the reach and scope of the department, Lani has brought her passion and strength to the program, encouraging the community to embrace giving as something that everyone can be proud of. Her passion for non-profit work is also evident in her involvement with the Bangor Humane Society, where she serves as Vice President of the Board and Development Committee Chair.
Throughout her life, Lani has been a strong advocate for animal welfare and ending violence against women and she actively supports both of these causes. MDI provides a great sense of community as she is grateful every day she gets to live, work and play on this wonderful Island.
She currently lives in Southwest Harbor with her three fur children, Henry, Willow and Lola.

Marisa Marinelli’s deep passion to work with non-profits was originally inspired by her love of the arts, particularly dance and theatre. A majority of her experience comes from her years with New York City Ballet as well as the American Repertory Ballet, Paul Taylor Dance Company and MTV.
After learning that all the world is more than just a stage, her personal journey led her to discover the power of food and the importance of health. She shifted her passion to focus on healthcare and wellness, where she most recently worked as Director of Marketing and Events for the Kushi Institute, the world’s leading macrobiotic educational center, in Becket, MA.
Marisa truly enjoys working with people and seeing the benefit and impact that one can have on the well-being of others. With vibrant community support and beautiful landscapes, she has found that she is most peaceful living here on Mount Desert Island.

Pam Curativo generates excitement for philanthropy through her willingness to make a difference in any way possible. Her buoyant personality is reflected both on and off the tennis court in her love of people, athleticism and her team spirit. She brings a passion for all things health and wellness related to everything that she does, no surprise, considering her years working in Men’s & Women’s Athletics for the University of Texas at Austin. Her six-year career in the development office of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center makes her a strong asset to MDI Hospital’s advancement team.
Seeking a simpler way of life, this Hawaii native found her way to Bar Harbor Maine from the great state of Texas. Since moving to Maine, she has joined the Blue Hill Congregational Church as the chairperson of the Board of Deacons and head of the Stewardship Program. She continues to introduce the joy of tennis to fellow MDI Hospital employees and all who are willing to listen.

Grant Writer207-460-3582 firstname.lastname@example.org
Nessa Burns Reifsnyder was born and raised in New York City, but she has deep family roots in Maine. In 1982, Nessa headed north to Bowdoin College, where she double-majored in English and History. Since graduation, she has resided in coastal Maine and worked as a writer, editor, graphic designer, and public speaker.
Her career as a grantwriter began in 1986 with a stint at the nonprofit Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance; then, she switched over to The Jackson Laboratory, where she interpreted cutting-edge genetics research for diverse lay audiences, including foundations and major donors. In 2005, she and a colleague, Joanne Harris, shared an American Business Award for their documentary film about The Jackson Laboratory; Nessa served as scriptwriter, co-interviewer and co-editor for the project, and also located and scanned hundreds of historic photographs used in the film.
Nessa began her position at MDI Hospital in 2013. With her longstanding interest in Island history, her knowledge of biomedicine, and her storyteller's heart, she endeavors to inform foundations and major donors about MDI Hospital's central role in the Downeast region's health and wellbeing. With every piece she writes, more people learn about Hancock County's first hospital--today, one of the nation's leading rural healthcare facilities and a center for medical education and collaboration.
Along with her work at MDI Hospital, Nessa co-owns a Bar Harbor crafts shop, Fabricate. She also writes and publishes poetry and fiction through her own imprint, Sunswick Media. Nessa and her husband, Peter, have four children. Their home is filled with old books, pop culture detritus, vinyl records, genealogical files, four cats and a dog.

Bethany Roberge grew up in New Hampshire, and obtained her B.A. from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After growing up in a small town, she set her sights on New York City, where she worked as the Center Administrator for the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance. During her time in NYC, she frequently visited friends on Mount Desert Island, and fell in love with the area, deciding that she someday wanted to call MDI home. Moving out of NYC, she made her way closer when she accepted the position of Marketing Associate at Portland Ovations, a performing arts presenter in Southern Maine. After 6 years at Ovations, Bethany is delighted to now be a part of the MDI Hospital community.
Bethany lives in Southwest Harbor, and spends her free time hiking, snowshoeing, and camping. Bethany is also an avid crafter, specifically focused on bookbinding and paper crafts, and enjoys exhibiting her creations at craft fairs.
